Once you have the Arduino Microcontroller, some sensors or components, a breadboard and wires – you then need to install the software used to program the Microcontroller. The User Interface (UI) for programming is also called the Integrated Development Environment (IDE).

If you already have this installed, you can go onto read up on some Key Concepts before you start building any Projects.

First, go to the Downloads section of the Arduino Software page and download the latest version for your operating system. This will be either Windows, Linux or macOS. As of this writing, the latest version is 2.2.3. If you are working from a Raspberry Pi, we’ll add more instructions here in the near future.

Once you’ve downloaded the software, visit the Installation Guide and follow the appropriate instructions based on your operating system.

Once you have the IDE installed, read up on some Key Concepts before you start building any Projects.
