The correct name is DuPont Connectors. These are the pre-made wires that you can quickly plug into the breadboard to create circuits. They come in different lengths and different colors, but the key item to understand is the different types of ends. Each end can either be “Male” or “Female”, and you’ll find 3 kinds of wires:
- M/M – has a Male connection on each end.
- M/F – has a Male and a Female connection on each end.
- F/F – has a Female connection on each end.
Right now I recommend the ELEGOO DuPont Wire Assortment, but have not been super happy with the quality. I’ll update here once I find another product or see that they have improved their quality.
Lastly, I remember in the 80’s listening to a presentation on sexism in tech where the speaker found these terms offensive. I’ve worked to make sure terms like “Primary” and “Secondary” are used instead of “Master” and “Slave”, but have yet to find good terms to use here to replace “Male” and “Female” – if you’ve got a suggestion, let me know.
